What is Happening in the Doll World?
Image
Two things...
Is it true that Robert Tonner, of the world renowned Tonner Doll Company, is shutting down the production of several lines of his famous dolls? Yes. Including the Ellowyne Wilde line, begun in 2006 and wildly successful ever since, with their pretty faces and well made fashionable clothes.
And also including the line of Effanbee dolls, like the Betsy McCalls and the Mary Engelbreits. Patsy gone! Oh my...
I am glad I have several of these dolls. And I know they will be available for years to come, as doll collectors gather them and release them...and their lovely clothes!
There is an email letter sent to registered Tonner Doll members, from Robert Tonner, where he acknowledges his 25 years of work and the fabulous popular response that he has received from fans everywhere. And details of his new direction, with the launching of a new company, Phyn and Aero, with new designers from the sounds of it. And 3 new lines for 3017... He sounds excited about his new direction.
And #2? Check out Fashion Doll Stylist's Merry Christmas display with her many fashion dolls...and her Happy New Year black and white display. This is one busy doll collector, blogger, doll fashion designer.
And if you are on Instagram, her December Advent series, and her 12 Days of Christmas series are a sight to behold!

What's Happening in Dolltown?

It's been a week of Christmas and celebrations!
And it's still going on as we hold fast to the 12 Days of Christmas and head for a January 6th ending!
It takes that long to post all our beautiful Christmas photos, and include some favorites like the 3 Iple girls at the top, wishing you a Happy New Year!
Birdy got a bird, Rosa got a bear, and Lula got...our very own long-lost electric guitar!
It showed up under a dresser when the washing machine froze up in our cold weather, and then flooded our office, and we had to move the furniture...
Isn't life grand?
Lula, that kind of counts as a gift right?
I can't always tell with Lula, if she is happy, or...not.
What do you think?

Little Tonner Patsy, our Gabby, got a new outfit from Alison Austin!
She was so excited! "It is just what I wanted!". We know, dear. As soon as we saw it. It's like dressing up as a Christmas candy!
And look who gets a matching outfit?
Any Little Darling brave enough to wear it!
Rosa loves it, and played cards with Gabby, and watched movies with her, and then they decided to sleep in the striped confections, pretending they were in their pyjamas!
Sparkle Nutcracker is in awe...

Christmas, Christmas, Christmas!

Surprises, packages, presents, treats...
And Dolltowners coming and going!

All the dolls and stuffies who headed downtown, to work in the Dolltown Christmas Diorama for all of December, returned home a few days ago.
So the presents, eating, and festivities began all over again!

We ended up with two "new" teddy bears...the ones that returned with You-Know-Who from the Island in November. One of them, Stuffy, even got to hang out with Zoey and Faith on the trip. So I guess it's not much of a surprise that they ended up "belonging" with us. Dolltowners.
Scruffy and Galumph. Do the Stuffies count when YKW says the population of Dolltown is 100? Is it 102 now?

Do Sparkly Nutcracker, Christmas Doll, and Santa count?
Or do our numbers fluctuate with the holidays?
Surely the decorations don't count...those gold gnomes or the Tree Top Angels.
Do we count the new tiny bunnies from April? Or are they considered doll toys?
Okay, that is enough Math for me!

As long as everybody has a place to sleep, and I get to keep my bench in the center of Dolltown!
I will kick up a Big Fuss if any Doll or Stuffie tries to take my place!
Mark my words!

But I have noticed that that number 100 never changes, no matter who comes or goes...

We might call that...a Dolltown narrative.
This week the two Iple JID boys showed up, with a gift box for the three girls...and caused a big fuss...
I think the boys are in the doghouse, at least for a while.
You-Know-Who was proud of the girls for how they handled the gift, brushing the boys off...
But, I have a feeling the girls were secretly tickled. I mean, the JID's are almost adults. I wouldn't be surprised if the girls did try on those lacy gifts, eventually...
I would!
This week was still about presents (spinning wheels and electric guitars!), love, and treats.
There were New Year's Celebrations! But they were low key...coloring, movies...
We loved The Little Prince so much we showed it more than once!
We older girls spent time on April's Diva's site, reading about her new guys and dolls. And hearing about their spectacular New Year's. I understand they had champagne! And there is a cocktail table...

Well, You-Know-Who had to keep an eye on our marionettes, Jester Jim and Don Quixote. They came for some French chocolat, and G filled their goblets.... It was all YKW could do, to get them back to their places without completely tangling their strings. They were in such a state!
I think that post is coming this week.

What else is coming this week?
The Little Darlings are all changed into their yoga outfits.
And they are making New Year's Resolutions.
8 year old's resolutions. This I have to hear!

What is my New Year's resolution?
I resolve not to tell you a big secret that I know...
You'll know soon enough! mdr
The photos posted this week...
Little Darlings Faith and Chantal got a new spinning wheel gift! Wow!
Lovely photos of the Iple JIDs together
And Gabby and Rosa play cards in their new outfits
Chat soon!
I am who I am.

Have you made your resolutions?

"Art Doll" magazine! A lovely bit of reading!
I subscribe to one magazine. "Dolls".
But I am tempted to pick up any doll magazine when I run across one.
And that isn't very often here in my neck of the woods!
But recently a drive over the mountains, and a stop at a large book store offered up a nice evening's read. And a resource for my shelf!
This copy of "Art Doll", besides some great photos of both funny and beautiful dolls, also had an article on using Snapchat to market dolls!
No end of Social Media to spend time on!
We are not on Snapchat...yet. Or maybe ever. Anyone have Snapchat experiences?

What's Happening in Dolltown?

Well, the story this week is definitelyCoco's departure!
Coco was chosen to be sent to April, as a thank you for all her Dolltown support.
Well, also, so she could watch how Uggs are made, learn how to thread needles, and how to stand still, for modeling photos.
But we took a chance. I mean, not all dolls are accepted at Fashion Doll Stylist's Design School for Girls!
For all we knew, Coco would be sent right back! With a rejection letter! (We warned her it could happen!)
We washed her up and changed her back into "Conner", with the black bob she came in. And included a letter of persuasion.
(Our Conner became Coco last summer with a change of a wig. Now Coco is back to Conner!)
The girls said goodbye, we mailed her off, and we waited....
A few days later we heard Conner arrived safely. And...
It's a go, folks! Conner can stay in Detroit City with April and her divas.
And, we are discovering, with no end of stuffed friends!
A dolly adventure begins!
Now, that's two Dolltown dolls out in the world.
Maggie is still in London with Tasya!

Coco/Conner was dressed in a blue and white outfit made by a dressmaker in France.
We thought that was appropriate since April lives in Paris for part of the year, and at Christmas sent us lots of little French things for dolls!
And we noticed we had three other Little Darlings dressed in coordinating colors.
So, just before Conner was tucked into her traveling, the four of them got together for photos! Who knows when Conner will be in a photo again here in Dolltown!
Jiyoon and Zoey are already in "yoga outfits", ready for January yoga classes coming up.
Better get yours on, Pearl! Classes start soon!
Conner took a black yoga outfit to April's. Verrry useful!

Tonner Guy, Wiz, and Ellowyne Amber, our Autumn, joined us for the clean up!
I'm sure it was Vikka, our set boss, who got them to come.
Vikka's used to Priscilla coming to help. (Priscilla helps a lot in her own grumpy way!)
It was a big job and having these Tonner dolls with us made a big difference!
There were lots of doll children too, of course. They all think it's fun. And of course, they are rewarded with treats.

Dolltown Goings On
Miley's Musings...

Well, the big secret I talked about last week is out!
Coco, aka Conner, was sent to April's Design School for Girls!
(I'm not even sure that April knows she has a Design School for Girls! I think You-Know-Who made that up!)
Now, we know that Lee and Asa run our Dolltown Doll Agency. And most of us know when we come to Dolltown that we might get put to work,...
Me, for instance! I got the job as the Dolltown.News reporter!
And several Little Darlings have had photos taken for signage for YKW's Pop Up Shop downtown.
And several more dolls, like Aira, Vikka, and Uley have been put on inspirational posters. Or funny postcards.
And even more were on Christmas Cards made to sell in the Pop Up shop. (3 were traded for art cards from a French painter traveling through the valley! Cool!).
Even Priscilla and Jester Jim have had their friendly visages put on posters and cards!
I kid you not!
But YKW took this to another level, getting our Iple Lee (Dolltown Agency boss) to make up a contract, stating "If Conner is accepted at the Design School..." and "under the condition that..." and "She can be expected to..." and "Here's an alternate contact number..." etc etc etc.
It was all very friendly, and let April off the hook if she didn't want to bother with a child doll in her design studio. She's used to her divas and dudes looking after themselves.
But it turns out that April is very used to child dolls, toddlers, baby dolls, and has a collection of stuffies that Dolltown would be proud of!
Can't wait to show some photos!
Conner looks very happy.
What else last week?
Lula and Owen are buddies again! He shared a memory...
The Marionettes, Don Quixote and Jester Jim, came down from their perches on the 12th Day of Christmas, and we brought out the goblets and filled them with spirits for these old gents!
Then...Christmas clean up! We needed the Community Center room for the Eiffel Tower coloring and construction project!
And it has begun!

What is coming this week?
Pearl organizes the coloring of the Eiffel Tower...
The Iple girls and the Ello's are hanging out together! They are even exchanging wigs! Oh my! Surely there will be photos posted!
Will we get to the yoga classes and the LD's New Year's Resolutions? We'll see!
There is fresh snow here, and all the children are hunting for their boots!
The photos posted this week...
Coco's change back to Conner, and her departure
The girls start arriving for the coloring project...
Chat soon!

The Dolltown Ellowynes are gathering in the Community Center!
The Little Darlings are gone and the furniture is rearranged!
Lani's snow mountain photo is still up to remind us it's still winter!
These girls are kicking back until the rest arrive.
I think it's a planning session. But I don't get as much information from my adult dolls. They sort of run their own activities.
There's even been some wig and name changes. That's the trouble when you have dolls who can make their own decisions! (Just ask April, who has to keep up with all her divas and dudes!)

Well, since our Little Darlings refuse to change out of their comfy yoga outfits, let's talk about Conner. Conner, as you may remember, was sent to Fashion Doll Stylist's Design School for Girls, in Detroit.
We'll save the stories of news and letters flying back and forth until next week. But Conner is obviously having fun with April's creative approach to design!
Here she is in a new bodysuit April made for her, with a lovely soft borrowed jacket, a skirt made from a wrapped vintage hankie we sent to April, new tube socks, and the beginning of a pair of Uggs.
Uggs!
And today, April sent us a photo of Conner wrapped in a lovely piece of yellow fabric! Birdy loved it so much she ran off to look in our fabric drawer.
Will Birdy change out of her pink yoga outfit? We'll see!

Our Little Darlings are immersed in the Eiffel Tower coloring project!
The kinds of flowers on it have been counted, crayons laid out, and all the girls were given the coloring rules by Pearl (in the white outfit).
Color inside the lines!
Only one color each!
The girls are all listening attentively, except Xennia who is sleeping on the couch behind Scout and Evie.
And Jiyoon, who arrives late from a visit to Auntie Mischelle's, with cookies! Thanks Auntie Mischelle!
(Cookies we can use again and again!)

That Eiffel Tower Model is something else! It is covered in designs to color...
And Pearl and Zoey actually counted the different kinds of flowers and organized the coloring so each girl gets one color!
Who ever heard of such a thing!
Pearl gave the girls 5 coloring rules! 5!
And what I found amazing...the girls all agreed without a peep! No complaints!
Did their accepting of the rules have anything to do with Jiyoon showing up, just at the end of Pearl's list, with delicious looking macarons? From Auntie Mischelle? The bright cookies were taken to the Library where the coloring is taking place.
I assure you, I will be going to watch the girls' progress, and maybe even doing some coloring myself! We want to see that Eiffel Tower up!
(At this rate it will be a spring event! lol)
What else last week?
The Ellowynes! Lissa arrived first and read until she fell asleep...waiting until the others arrived. Noddy and Quinn showed up!
I am so excited to have some older dolls around for awhile! The children are fun but there's nothing like a little adult conversation! Movie discussions, politics, even a little gossip!
We all had a good laugh when we heard that Iple Lee got roped into babysitting while the Daycarers got some well deserved time off. (Photo below!)
We heard he read the business page for a bedtime story. Yup, that would put anyone to sleep!
What is coming this week?
We have lots of photos of Little Darling Conner at April's place in Detroit! Conner has been sorting ribbons, holding clothes for April's divas as they got dressed, and she was allowed to brush their hair! Oh, I think this is going very well!
I am sure there will be some photos posted soon!
There will more photos of the Dolltown Ellowynes, I'm sure! They are hanging out right here in the living room where the action usually is! And more Ellos are getting dressed for the meeting. No City Ellowynes in sight.... Do they hibernate? Pretty cozy in that doll basket! I'm kidding! They sent a photo of their meet up at their favorite cafe...
We are still waiting for the Little Darling yoga classes and the LD's New Year's Resolutions. It better happen before the end of January!  We'll see!

Yoga outfits!
We saw them on the Little Darlings...but the Ellowynes have several sets too.
Oksana is wearing separates, Dolltown's basic style approach.
Mix and match.
We take a photo of an outfit when it comes (usually!), then ziploc bag it, or separate it and store the individual pieces in bigger ziplocs, pants with pants, etc.
And not only do the dolls in a group share,
But there is more and more sharing among groups, like Little Darlings and these Ellowynes. And Ellowynes with the Iples. (Don't stretch my top! say the Ellowynes!)

And she's the one who wrecked it!
(Who leaves an earbud on the keyboard and closes the cover?!)
Be alert! G admonished her. And I have to agree...
I wanted to tell you more about Conner's adventures with April, Fashion Doll Stylist, and her models, and Conner's new animal friends. But you'll just have to pop over to Hiya Dolly to see the photos!
And the yoga classes are beginning! Oksana, Dolltown Yoga Instructor, is in the Ballroom warming up as-we-speak! And doing the Downward Facing Dog, I kid you not!
And the Little Darlings are on their way! They are so excited because they have all prepared their New Year's Resolutions, and You-Know-Who will be interviewing them during their yoga class!
Stay tuned for that!
What else is coming this week?
Well, YKW has given me an assignment, while our laptop is gone. Take your notebook and spy on the Ellowynes! Okay, she didn't actually say "spy". But she wants to know what they are up to and why they are falling silent whenever she is around.
She thinks she should know EVERYTHING that happens in Dolltown. Lol.
I'm on it! I love hanging around with the Ellowynes!
The photos posted this week...
Chat soon!
I am who I am.

We brought this book on our trip!
A mystery solved by two adventurous doll friends. I like the way the author handles doll characters coming alive when the humans are asleep or absent. A doll oath...hmmmm.
We posted this read last December.

The Doll People

by Ann M Martin

A 250 page book for 8-12 year olds....

$6.00 Paperback

From the summary...

Annabelle Doll is eight years old-she has been for more than a hundred years. Not a lot has happened to her, cooped up in the dollhouse, with the same doll family, day after day, year after year. . . until one day the Funcrafts move in.

The old dolls are porcelains and the new neighbours are plastic...

4 books in The Doll People series!
