River Outing! And the mysterious canoe...
Zoey, Faith and Chantal are the first to see the canoe!
Two of our Sashas have been put in charge of the children, to keep them safe and organized at the Dolltown River. Here is Archie with the girls, and he is telling them all about the canoe.  It is made from BC birchbark! And is over 50 years old...
Not only is there a big canoe, almost big enough for the Little Darlings, but there is a little one, like a toy for dolls.
By the time it is in the hands of the boys, they are wondering if the little one will float!
Archie! Keep an eye out! A little canoe in the river might disappear in a flash! (And we have had it for so long!)

Coats...from Wonderful Worlds!
I want to take a minute to feature a staple here in Dolltown.
Lots of dolls arrive in a single outfit, or undies only. Some are even naked, poor things!
We had to find clothes for lots of the dolls arriving during our collecting period a couple of years ago.
And also for my childhood dolls who had a very limited wardrobe packed away with them.
I found a great source on eBay, providing basic styles, and ordered once, then twice, and then again.wonderfulworlds...
I have shown their "yoga" outfits (my term) in the past, stretchy tshirts and leggings in several colors. Outfits in use on an almost daily basis.
But I was also smart enough to choose one of these coats in my first order. And I instantly added two more to my second order. Then two more in my third. In different sizes and colors....
They arrive with a scarf, cross over seasons, and can be worn with leggings, jeans, and dresses. They look good in the country and the city. And are...reasonable. Very reasonable!
I would probably add another color or two, if they had them. But the cream and red shown here on Xennia and Tink, and a black and white check version  (below), really do the trick to provide our Dolltowners with outerwear. Throw in a jeans jacket and a true winter tweed and we have our coats needs covered.
Thanks Wonderful Worlds!
Now if only we could find an equivalent for the boys...

Miley's Musings...

Well, we finally got to see the canoe that everyone has been rumouring about!
The canoe and some special Sasha dolls are featured this week in our stories about spring and the River picnic...
We discovered that the canoe was rescued from a box of treasures in the attic when the Attic Dolls were retrieved some time last year.
The Attic Dolls are You-Know-Who's children's dolls (and there were stuffies, Transformers, doll clothes, furniture, Barbie boats, Shera castles, doll dishes, cribs, trolls, Little Ponies...don't get me started!)
Everything has been washed, sorted, identified and claimed by each of Y-K-W's three grown kids. Some dolls-and-things didn't make it through the claims process, and what Y-K-W didn't want for Dolltown disappeared into thrift shop bags.
Some Attic Dolls are still here and we get to bring them into our stories, and adopt them as Dolltowners!
And that's what has happened to four Sasha dolls who spent many years as beloved dolls of Y-K-W's three children. Well, okay. I think Gregor looks a little less beloved than some of those Transformers. But that's another story.
And the story of the canoe? Well you can read a little of its history in the first of the River posts, posted this week!
Now, I don't like to complain...but I am stuck in the big house because my head has come loose. And I am waiting for You-Know-Who to fix it so I can get down to the River too.
Put in a word for me will you? Sheesh... I want to see that canoe!
At least Ballet Doll Floora is staying with me. She doesn't want to get her pink tutu mussed up!
The photos posted this week...
Tink and Xennia, touring the town.
The four Sashas, now Dolltowners!
Okay, gotta run! Chat soon!
I am who I am! Even with a loose head!
For your viewing pleasure...
It's Conner! Last spring when she was still in Dolltown!
She's on the Bridge and wearing one of the Wonderful Worlds coats....
Lately we have been showing photos of Conner apprenticing in Detroit City at April's Fashion Doll School of Design.
(We just got a photo of Conner in a new designed-by-April cape, and she has a fashionable black umbrella! How fun is that! Photo next week, if I remember...)

Jan Foulke's Guide to Dolls: A Definitive Identification & Price Guide Paperback – Sep 2006

$9.98

Customer Review by Pen Name Whether you have an antique china head doll or a vintage GI Joe, this Guide to Dolls is an identification and price guide that's worth having. It seems to replace the Blue Book of Doll Values that Jan Foulke has become known for. (Her last Blue Book was the 16th edition.)However, don't let the name of the book fool you, it is just as comprehensive as the Blue Books and is still packed with a lot of photos to help you identify your existing dolls (or those you may be considering purchasing). The first few pages cover doll collecting in general -- what to look for. Ms. Foulke then provides a few brief suggestions for buying and selling dolls at auction before getting into the meat of the book--the price guide.

The book lists dolls by manufacturer and by mold number in case that's all you have to go by. Each doll or type of doll includes a reported price or price range for a doll in good condition.

Whether you are an avid doll collector or someone just trying to clean out the attic, you may want Jan Foulke at your side before buying or selling your dolls.

Do you have a Jan Foulke's book?

I'd love to hear what you think of it and how you use it!

We are at the River again this week, and the kids are having lots of fun!
Last week we showed the birchbark canoe...
And this week the Little Darlings and friends dug a little deeper in the canoe and found some forgotten treasures
It felt like a school field trip, with lots of learning about the old days.
The Sasha dolls were actually around years ago when most of these items were gathered into the family.
So they could share with the children all about where they came from and who they belonged to!
What will the little children think when they arrive?

It's Easter week! But the kids are at the river and aren't ready to fancy up. They have a very special picnic to enjoy yet!
But I have their dresses laid out for them for when they return from their river outing.
And we are going to have fun because over the year, when I cash in my bubbly water cans, I hunt for basic separates for our active Dolltown lives...or I spring for a special dress.
Last fall while window shopping on eBay, I found this special dress. It is aTomi Jane Tea Dress. And I am such a Tomi Jane fan!
So I spent all my soda can money on this one dress.
(That's why my girls had to wear sock dresses for Valentine's.)
Chantal got to try it on when it arrived, and we sent her photo to Tomi with a thank you. Then we put it away until spring. And it's Spring!
Now, who will get to wear it when the girls get all fancied up in our prettiest dresses?
We'll see!
And over the months we have gathered other lovely dresses from wonderful dressmakers! We are looking forward to getting all dressed up, and sipping tea and hunting for eggs in the garden.
If only it would warm up a little...
We are so over sweaters! It has been a long winter!
This article has been posted on the Hiya Dolly site...
I set up a Tomi Jane page on Hiya Dolly, and I'm gathering photos, posts, and stories!
Hi Tomi dear, if you read this!

Why, those naughty little girls!
Gabby, Lilac Moon, and Oiya escaped from the car while You-Know-Who and Sasha doll, Asia, went in to visit Aunt Jacalyn and see her travel mementos.
Now we know why the three little girls wanted to stay in the car! They must have had a plan. But how did they get out? They won't tell!
Lucky Asia spotted them out the window, climbing up the little hill, and we were able to get them back before something dreadful happened to them! A road on one side, a river on the other! Makes my heart beat fast just thinking about it!
And at the Dolltown River, the Little Darlings and friends discovered more treasures in the old birchbark canoe. There is a gold watch, that isn't working of course! And a beautiful golden fish (not a goldfish!) that is just the right size for dolls to eat!
But You-Know-Who says it belonged to her mother, who used to hold it when she was thinking. Okay!
It got the girls thinking about what the rest of their friends were doing downstream. And off they went!
Who's on their way to the Dolltown River now?
The little kids, with their Sasha chaperone, Asia!
Does that mean that Gabby, Lilac Moon, and Oiya are coming? Wil Y-K-W let them come to the river after what they did?
We'll see!
In the meantime, some cute Easter photos have been posted!
The photos were taken last month when the Little Darlings were dressed in Natalia's pretty knit dresses.
And will the little story with Tink, Priscilla, and the Peeps get posted in time?
Oh yes it did!
Next week, we will post photos of the picnic at the river. A French picnic! Very fun...and delicious!
Also, the Little Darlings get to dress up in their finest spring dresses!
Can't wait! I've heard there is a new Tomi Jane dress in Dolltown! I wonder who will get to wear it!
I am expecting to get dressed up too! I think I am going on a real outing! So excited! I don't go out much because I am the reporter here in Dolltown. And that, my friends is a 24-7 job. (Most of us don't have sleep eyes, so we are kind of on the go all the time. Thank goodness the Sashas are going to teach us Mindfulness. It's kind of like resting, they say!)

The first photos posted were five of the girls all in special Tomi Jane dresses.
Xennia got to wear the aqua Tea Dress.
And the others dressed in matching Colorways dresses. Lula was thrilled in her pink dress. She was in Australia with Lani last spring and didn't see the dresses. They were all wrapped in tissue and set on a dark shelf until the flowers poked their heads up this spring...

 What is Happening in Dolltown?
The Dolltown children were off hunting eggs in the forest by the river.
Priscilla arrived at the river, on our pink bike!
Xennia joined her and wanted to ride the bike, of course.
And Xennia took off, and left Priscilla wondering what happened!

What's Happening in Fashion in Dolltown?

We've had a little flurry of packages arriving as the sun comes out and the flowers start blooming.
Last week we showed you some new dresses on our little girls.
Heartstrings Phoebe here is reallylittle!
She is so tiny, and has so few clothes, that we have had to scramble to get her to all our events! Fold, pin, tuck...
She has no one to share with.
And in Dolltown, the more dolls that share clothes, the more clothes it looks like we have!
So after months of window shopping for Phoebe, we chose two outfits for her. Both can be worn for different events and seasons!
Phoebe is thrilled!
And so are we!

Hey! Quiet week!
The little girls wanted more attention, after they got all dressed up in new dresses. And they insisted that You-Know-Who take more photos of each of them.
So she did!
And Phoebe is so happy to have the cutest little outfit, with pants!
Y-K-W hasn't told her that she lost her only real dress. Maybe that's why she broke down and got Phoebe her own outfit! Guilt!
While the Little Darlings and friends were still hunting for eggs in the forest, Xennia showed up in the clearing, just when Priscilla had arrived on her bike. And a few minutes later, Xennia took off...with the bike!
And left Priscilla holding two tiny bunnies!
I am happy to say two things:
You-Know-Who finally stitched my head back on. (Maybe photos next week!)
Iplehouse girls, Aira and Odelle, lounged onto the bridge. We haven't seen them for ages! Will they stick around for a while?
Next week... Surely the picnic photos, pulleeze!
And I have no idea what's next.
We don't know if it going to rain or shine.
Inside or outside?
Stay tuned!
Pop over to Dolltown to see the photos posted this week! You must!

From the Amazon Summary:
This book guides the reader through the "elementary" clues for solving the mysteries of dolls. These clues will help you to determine what materials were used for the head, body and hair, and the category of the doll in question. You will learn how important the length of a doll is in determining when it was made. The 225 photos (32 pages in full colour) and 159 illustrations will help the collector, dealer, or any interested individual to discover not only when a doll was made but also where it was made and who made it. The Makers and Marks Section includes 162 doll makers and manufacturers with information including mould numbers, sizes, manufacturing dates and references for over 1600 dolls. This book is an invaluable source for anyone who owns a doll or dreams of owning one. It is a "must have" for anyone who is curious about dolls.
This book will be arriving in Dolltown soon!

A Good Read!

A mystery solved by two adventurous doll friends. I like the way the author handles doll characters coming alive when the humans are asleep or absent. A doll oath...hmmmm.
