What's New in Dolltown?

 A Garden Fairy!
We are immersed in a big photo shoot for a brand new Dolltown event.
We can't show photos yet, so here's a photo of Evie with her new angel doll. She has to share of course. We knew that all the dollies would love this little cutie.
It's a naked cupie doll, with metal patterned wings attached to its little back. And it's on a metal rod so it can be popped into a potted plant....
Or carried by a dolly waaay above her head into the house, to the oooh's and aaah's of the other dolls.

What's New in Fashion in Dolltown?

The dolls in Dolltown are always switching up their clothes, and sharing with each other.
So here is a sneak peek at one of the clothing changes as the girls get ready for...well, a special event happening soon!
From Tomi Jane's extraordinary dresses, to Calico Closet's fun outfits, the dolls have a variety of clothes to choose from.
We continue to work on our fashion pages, which is something that has to be done after hours, while the Dolltowners are sleeping... It's WAY too busy to get much done besides photos and stories during our waking hours.

What else is up in Fashion in Dolltown?
Hair/wigs...they are fashion accessories!
And they are essential expressions of a doll's character.
Si les changements de perruque, les changement de poupee.
If you change the do, you change the doll.
We have quietly switched Conner's look,
from her raven black hair to this soft brown bob.

And we are waiting to see if THIS is who Conner is. 
Or if she will switch back soon once we get over loving her like this. 
I tend to love almost ANY change to begin with. 
But the changes we make don't always stay.

What's happening in Dolltown...

We had to postpone the birthday party! 
You-Know-Who was way too busy collecting and dressing the Dolltowners, going over her doll contacts, setting up the special setting, and beginning the photo story process for our Special Event.
We didn't get ice cream cupcakes and balloons. But in a week with both Canada Day and a tennis grand slam we did not go without treats!
Ripe strawberries and delicious soft ice cream from Bob's Mini Mart in honour of Wimbledon.
Then fresh pie, with cherries straight from Kai's tree!
Grace picked them herself, on a day so windy she was hanging on to a branch with one hand and picking with the other.
I was right here listening when Grace dropped off a big bag of cherries. And all the dollies who were not already dressed in their finest were put to work: washing, pitting, cutting, measuring. And as quickly as they prepared the cherries G poured them into a pie plate ready with dough. 
G let me help with the dough! 
Cherry pie...and more tennis!

What's happening around here?
The City Ellowynes are back from their travels, meetings are happening about the Ello Pop Up Shop here in Dolltown. We'll hear all about it soon.
The Iples are renovating and landscaping up at Dolltown Abbey. How domestic!
But their REAL work is Dolltown security. We all know that. They are upping the security with the Special Event coming. That's how we found out Tink and Xennia had wandered as far as the meadow. They had widened their search for frogs, and forgot to tell us. Sheesh!
The children are at Summer Daycare, now that school is out for the summer!
We are all busy with detailed world building. (I heard that phrase on Mr. Robot this week. Also, ensemble...)
Okay..gotta get back to work. You-Know-Who asked me to write up the Special Event's agenda. I think she got the idea of giving me more writing assignments from Fashion Doll Stylist April and her dolls. Active bunch.

I love the photos posted this week!
But then, I always do.
This next week's possibilities...
  • A photo of our favorite Montreal dressmaker, Pachom Suesuwan! It's the first time we have seen her. Lovely! And guess who she's with? Love it!
  • Our Special Event...perhaps
We'd better not plan more than that. So we'll just add...
  • Anything else that comes up!

Woody here, is G's old doll. Well, G never called it a doll, of course. It's an artist's model, a favorite belonging of G's, along with his typewiter, his electric guitar, and his All-Clad pots and pans.
Writing is a strong component of G's skill set. 
G doesn't write my stuff, but he is helpful enough to look it over and find my glaring mistakes and confusions.
And if you find mistakes, you can be sure I didn't bother to ask him that day.
Only now and then does he give in to writer's temptation and tell me what to say. 
Like "If you change the do, you change the doll"...that's his.
How can I not use it once he has said it. Right?
So, thanks, G...for your newsletter editing, your brilliantly creative ideas for Dolltown (only a few of which I ever get to), and Jester Jim...

What's happening in Dolltown...

We had to postpone the birthday party!
AGAIN! 
But we had so much FUN!
You won't see me in any of the photos, because You-Know-Who had me coordinating backstage while she took the photos in front of the stage.
I had the list made up, with about half the Dolltowners, sometimes in pairs or bunches, presenting about 45 awards.
What a challenge! It reminded me of a fashion show...making sure everyone was dressed, and that they knew who they were presenting to. And some dolls presented twice, or even 3 times!
But we did it! And then You-Know-Who had to alert people who might not have been present. Some of the people we gave awards to don't even know we appreciate them, like the Toy Box Philosopher...
While she did that, the rest of us cleaned up and got the dollies changed and ready...
NOW do we get our ice cream party?? We are going to stage a protest, noisy but peaceful, if You-Know-Who doesn't walk through that door with chocolate, strawberry, and bubblegum (ew) ice cream!
We deserve it! 
The children are excited!
No ice cream for the Ellowynes. They headed down to Happy Hour with the Tonner guys, Eddie and Wiz. They are taking a break from business. Briefly, I'm sure!
The Iple girls were inspired to do some wig changes. And took the boys into the woods for a nature walk. I don't think they eat, so ice cream is not an attraction...

Ice Cream Party!
We all deserve it after our Awards Day...all the Dolltowners worked hard. Now...downtime!
But there's lots of prep...clean up Awards Day, dress the dolls who are ready, bring in the setting and props, renew the batteries in the lighting, and of course... shop for ice cream!
And get the set ready, Thanks to Sam and Priscilla, it was a breeze!

It's Birdy again! We spent lots of time together this week...
Every time I take a dolly to the Shop, they find things for us to bring home to Dolltown!
Of course she loves this bird stand.
And I leaned Birdie against it...
As a doll photographer, I am always looking for great props that the dolls can lean against a little. It saves a lot of time!
Lots of our Dolltowners are good balancers, but it does take patience. And sometimes a doll just won't cooperate. 
So, instead of getting the actual doll stands out of the basket, I just set up a prop that suits the setting.
So Birdy, we might just bring this stand home to Dolltown.

And halfway down the post who did I see... Or I think I see...Birdy!

Wow! The Awards last week were such an inspiration! It was such an honour to be a part of organizing the appreciation for all the wonderful supports for creating and running Dolltown!
And now...it's happening!
Ice Cream Party in Dolltown!
Look at me with a strawberry ice cream cupcake! Yum!
Priscilla just threw herself into the party prep. Was it just so she got first dibs on the ice cream?
Sam helped too. Such a good guy.
Scout knows the kitchen here well, so she gathered icecream, spoons, napkins...
First group up? The Little Darlings! They have SUCH good manners!
Even Tink and Xennia, hilarious in their napkin togas, offered to share their dripping ice cream cupcake with Evie when she arrived.
They left it on the table, in a puddle of cream and chocolate, when they left. Evie opted for fresh ice cream! I'm not here for cream soup she said!
I know You-Know-Who still has to alert people who don't even know we appreciate them, like the Toy Box Philosopher...
...
But for now, she is busy gathering Dolltowners and taking photos. 
It's all about the ice cream party!
Although there were a couple of detours to take some great photos, with Birdy at the Pop Up Shop. And...of Vera, our little Tonner Linda. She's so cute! And so nice! 
So this coming week, we hope....Vera!
And the little children! Ice cream time for them!
The Ellowynes might show up...well, a few of them. Or one.
And one Ello checked out our Pop Up Shop, for ideas... Photos maybe.
The Iples are back from their nature walk. 
Renos are still happening at their Dolltown Abbey estate. 
I've heard they are putting in a playroom for Jiyoon!
And it's a big one...  Do you think it's true?

Birdy's belated birthday...
This little face stopped me in my tracks last January, browsing the internet.
The look of love, before life happens...
A first choice...
So she was always in mind as the Dolltowners were chosen and collected.

Birdy didn't arrive until this March.
And she arrived with three friends.
Birdy is so sociable! She just jumped in and took over her role of center like she knew everyone in Dolltown and they knew her. Happy Birthday, Birdy!

So cute!

She had so much fun!
And so did I, because this is the first time since Vera arrived that I have spent so much time with her. She followed me around for the whole week, even coming down to the Pop Up Shop!
And while Vera was there she found a plate of fruit and vegetables.
And asked for them...
What is the matter with me? I said no!
In the middle of a week filled with ice cream and cupcakes!

We have been way too busy to track down this mystery.
I thought a quick question to April, Fashion Doll Stylist, would clear this up. But although April has been commenting on our site, on the Ice Cream Party and on Vera's garden photos, she just evaded the question about Birdy in the photo. Her voice trailed off, and she began talking about how hot it is in the East... What is going on?
Surely we will have time this week...
But wait! We are celebrating Birdy's birthday! 
So fun!
But Birdy is still saying "Merci Beaucoup!" to everyone. 
And "Puis-je avoir une autre part de gateau?"
Maybe she is spending lots of time with our bilingual Chantal! You think?
